Urly Made • May 27, 2020
Online shopping has increased by 25% due to the pandemic. It was popular before, but it may even become the norm once the dust has settled and things begin to return to the new normal. What is that new normal going to look like? We don't know yet, however, with increased purchases made online it may be in your businesses best interest to look at improving your search engine optimization. We have outlined 5 store strategies that you can implement to boost your rankings and get your products out there. SEO is a long game, so be patient. You've got this!
1. Product Page Keyword Research
When you write your product descriptions make sure to make them comprehensive and valuable to the visitor. Use 1-2 keywords per product. There are tons of free tools out there to better optimize your individual product pages. Here are a few of our keyword research tool recommendations:
- Keywords Everywhere
- Ahrefs
- Moz
- Google Trends
- List of 60 Free Tools
2. Add Products to Amazon Marketplace
Did you know that 50% of all product searches start on Amazon. If you don't have your products on Amazon already, we would highly recommend adding them. There are pros and cons to this that you should keep in mind. Here are a few:
- Increased traffic to your products
- An additional place to sale
- Amazon could create a competing product
3. On-site Store Search
Make sure your online store has a search function. When you have that up and running make sure you have it optimized for searches that your visitors are interested in. To improve product pages use your analytics tool to identify the pages that have lower traffic and update content based on your findings. To help your search function, double check all products have been tagged for various searchable categories and filters.
4. Category Page Updates
Just like your individual product pages, you should be improving SEO on your category pages. It is best to provide as much valuable information on each category page as possible. You can also focus on 3 keywords on these pages. Don't overdo it though. You want to provide value, not a Wikipedia page on the history of shirts. Examples of category pages: Shirts, Men's Shorts, Blazers, etc.
5. Mobile Friendly
Don't overlook mobile usage. Just because you have an online store that looks amazing on a desktop doesn't mean it'll be easy to view on mobile. Don't make people zoom. They don't like that and neither does Google. Since 2016, Google has been doing mobile-first indexing of websites so it is extremely important that your store is easily navigated on mobile devices.

It’s no secret that the pandemic has forced a lot of businesses to move online. Whether you already had a website or not, more people are likely to visit it now while the majority of the world remains indoors and socially distanced. According to a study conducted by Stanford University , “75% of users admit to making judgments about a company’s credibility based on their website design.” The study goes on to state that “945 of first impressions are design-related.” Considering those numbers, it may be time to take a second look at your site and see if it could use a little sprucing up.
